The appearance of ASTM A105, A182 socket welded flange is like slip-on flange. The main difference is that socket welded flange has bore which can match a specific pipe inside-diameter. The back side of flange is used to socket to the pipe outside diameter.
The diameter of the smaller core is equivalent to the inner diameter of matching pipe. The flange has a restriction at the bottom of the bore which used as a shoulder so that the pipe can rest on. The structure has not limitation for flow when using socket welded flange. ASTM A105, A182 socket welded flange is mainly used for pipe having small sizes and high pressure.
