ASTM A105 socket welding flange has the same functions with slip-on flange. Socket welding has a counter bore to be welded with pipe. The diameter of the bore is equivalent to the pipe there giving good flow characteristics. Sometimes, socket welding flange can take place of slip-on flange to connect pipe.
